Diane Von Furstenberg dresses

How many Diane von Furstenberg dresses do you have in your closet?

diane-von-furstenberg-silk-mixed-print-wrap-dress
We were looking at some Diane von Furstenberg dresses and wondering about the brand’s target demographic. According to what we’ve read, the brand is for women of all ages in all stages of life. To us Diane von Furstenberg dresses look like they’re designed more for women in the 25 – 55 age range. If we had to narrow it even more we’d say working women aged 35 – 49.

Diane von Furstenberg Printed Silk Wrap Dress

We can as easily see a 25 year old in this Diane von Furstenberg multicolored printed silk wrap dress as we can see a 55 year old in it. But the same isn’t necessarily true of this next dress. While we’re sure there are 25 year old women who could and would wear it and look nice in it, at first glance it doesn’t really scream twenty-something  style.

Diane von Furstenberg dresses are said to be for women of all ages and all stages of life (if they can afford to shop the brand of course)

If you believe one of the articles we came across, millennials are the target demographic of the Diane von Furstenberg brand. But many of the brand’s dress styles have a more ‘style conscious working mom’ look to them. That’s not to suggest that there aren’t style conscious working mothers who are millenials. If you were born in 1982 you’re a millenial. You’re also 34 as of the writing of this post, assuming you were born on or before December 7th. You could be the mother of a 16 year old if you had a child when you were 18. If you became a mother at a more socially acceptable age, like 25 for example, you are the mother of a 9 year old. So style conscious working moms currently include millenials as well as members of Generation X. It may well also include Baby Boomers, although their children are grown adults (assuming they did not have children in their mid fifties)

What age group of women wear Diane von Furstenberg dresses?

Diane von Furstenberg Starred Clouds Coral Silk Valencia Dress

Mostly because of the print, this Starred Clouds Coral Silk Valencia Dress is definitely not a Diane von Furstenberg dress we’d expect to see on the average 25 year old. The wrap dress style has a kind of mature look to it in our opinion. And to some degree you can say Diane von Furstenberg’s brand being so long established has something to do with that. She’s credited with inventing the wrap dress decades ago. So the style, which is still very common to her brand is a dated style even if it’s still a style that’s in vogue.

But we’re inclined to believe the brand is indeed for women of all ages at all stages of life.

Diane von Furstenberg Zarita Lace Dress
Diane von Furstenberg Zarita Lace Dress

We don’t get the impression that Diane von Furstenberg herself would get behind a practice of targeting an age range that excludes the women who grew up with her brand. But then again, you can’t stand on principle if you want to keep your business on the cutting edge. So it makes sense that the brand might identify its target customer base as women who fall into the millenials demographic. They are the most active shopping group, particularly of fashion apparel.

Shopping Macys Friends and Family Sale

0

Macys is having a friends and family sale!

kate spade new york Saffiano Reversible Belt
kate spade new york Saffiano Reversible Belt – $68

I’m a little low on funds at the moment, so I won’t be making any purchases during the Macys friends and family sale. But I figured I’d do a little virtual window shopping anyway. This could serve as my point for reference when I do have the funds and need to remember what I had in mind to buy for myself.

Of course the Friends and family sale will be over by the time I have money to afford anything.

Marc Jacobs Womens The Jacob Black Leather Strap Watch
Marc Jacobs Womens The Jacob Black Leather Strap Watch

The Kate Spade belt, MICHAEL Michael Kors bag and Marc Jacobs watch are three items that caught my eye. The watch comes with a $300.00 price tag. The bag is $348 and the belt is $68.

I’m needing some new winter boots. So I’m looking at these snow boots from The North Face.

The North Face Women’s Nuptse Purna Faux-Fur Boots

The North Face Women's Nuptse Purna Faux-fur boots in black

These boots look like they keep your feet warm and toasty. And if the reviews are to be believed, they wear as they look. I’m seriously considering buying these. I have enough credit on my Macy’s card to afford them; and I do need some new boots for the season. But I’m getting nervous about my credit. I want to pay off at least half of my debt before I make any new non-essential purchases. And the fact is, I have my boots from last year. I can probably just buy some furry inserts to keep my feet warm.

I would also like to get a pair of boots that I can wear when there’s no snow on the ground…

Macy’s has a lot of nice styles in boots (you can check them via my affiliate link)

I see a number of boots that I like; but many are boots I wouldn’t buy because the heel and the sole aren’t quite right, and comfort is very important to me when it comes to shoes. It’s just not worth it to suffer for style. Some of my most horrifying experiences with uncomfortable shoes were so bad that all I have to do is think about it and my feet start hurting from the memory. So when it comes to shoes, I like to look stylish but whatever I buy has to have a heel and a sole (and also an insole) that suggests comfort.

Easy Spirit Billian Block-Heel Ankle Booties

Easy Spirit Billian Block-Heel Ankle Booties

When I hear the name Easy Spirit, chic style isn’t exactly the first thought that comes to mind. And these ankle boots probably wouldn’t classify as chic necessarily. But they are cute enough. And after looking through Macy’s collection of “comfort boots”, these were the only pair I saw that I thought looked like they could potentially meet my needs. They look like they should be comfortable. And the small handful of reviews all contain the claim that the boots are comfortable. So for my second pair of boots, these would be the pair I would purchase. They are regularly priced at $110 but are available during the current Macys Friends and family sale for $62.99. Maybe I should buy them. That’s $47 I’d be saving; but I think I need the snow boots a little bit more urgently. So if I buy any boots today I’d go with the snow boots which regularly cost Reg. $130.00 but are currently available for $97.50.

I also need a new coat and I found myself more drawn to styles from Michael Michael Kors than any of the other styles I saw.

Hello Fresh Trial Review #hellofresh

A Hello Fresh trial and review might seem a misplaced article on a fashion website. But we here at myfashionwants.com believe that Food and fashion are very much connected. After all, what you put in your body has a great impact on what you put on your body.

When you’re buying clothes one of the first things you have to consider is the size of the clothes you’re buying. And that’s only the most trivial aspect of the connection between food and fashion. Our state of mind also affects our fashion choices. And the foods we eat impact our state of mind. It might sound farfetched to suggest, but how we feel about ourselves plays into the way we dress. Our dress style is in part controlled by how we feel about our bodies, how we feel in our own skin, whether we feel good or bad about our self and our life. Beyond that, the activity of cooking can be argued to play a role in improving our state of mind for the better. And when we’re in a positive state of mind we tend to take greater care in making choices for how we present ourselves to the world. That includes taking a greater interest in our appearance and how we dress. So, from this perspective, we think that a hello fresh trial and review article does have a place on a fashion website.

Our Hello Fresh Trial review

A couple of weeks ago our editor in chief signed up for Hello Fresh after receiving a discount coupon in the mail. She’d been wanting to try out a service like Hello Fresh for a while to see if these types of services can make cooking for her family more convenient and fun.Hello FreshHer first box arrived on Tuesday of this week. Below is her review of her Hello Fresh Trial.

Editor’s Review

My Hello Fresh Trial got off to a bad start due to the fact that the box contained shrimp and I’m allergic to shrimp and never bring it into my home in any capacity.

Even though I wasn’t planning to consume any of the meals myself, having shrimp in one of the recipes was a no-no. Since I was going to be the one cooking the meals, this meant I would have to handle shrimp. And as anyone with a shrimp allergy that manifests itself in the form of anaphylactic shock knows, you also cannot handle shrimp. For that matter you’re advised not to be in an area where shrimp is present.

hello-fresh-shrimp-spanish-style-spaghetti
The shrimp that came in the box from Hello Fresh

How did I get sent shrimp in the first place?

It actually didn’t occur to me when I first signed up for Hello Fresh that I might get sent a recipe containing shrimp. It was only when I went to check to see what the first dishes were going to be, that I saw that one of the dishes included shrimp. I got on the phone right away to call Hello Fresh to request that they send something else instead, and that they put a note on my account to block shellfish and all other seafood. The person that I spoke to assured me that the first box wouldn’t contain any shellfish or other seafood. And she said that she would make a note on my account so that all my future boxes would be shellfish ad seafood free. So when the box arrived I started taking the things out without any concern about shrimp.

You can imagine that it was a little worrisome when I took the container out of the box, looked at it and saw that is was shrimp. I had to immediately take medication in order to safeguard against a possible reaction just from touching the product container. So that wasn’t a good way to get my Hello Fresh Trial off to a start.

Word to the wise: if you’re reading this and thinking about trying Hello Fresh, if you happen to be allergic to certain foods, make sure you get your account adjusted to reflect your food allergies before you place your first order. But even then, you might want to keep in mind that human error is possible. After all, our editor in chief was told she would not receive any shrimp, yet she received shrimp in her first box from Hello Fresh. People make mistakes so keep that in mind.

What was in the box other than the shrimp?

Hello Fresh Trial ReviewMy first box contained ingredients for the following 3 dishes:

1. Butter Basted Chicken

2. Thai Beef Skewers

3. Spanish Style Spaghetti

The question of convenience and fun

The purpose of trying Hello Fresh was to see whether it would add any value to my life in the form of making it more convenient and more fun to cook for my family.

The verdict: I would have to say that I enjoyed the process of preparing the two meals for my husband and my son. Hello Fresh is definitely convenient from the standpoint that you have everything you need handy. But if I had looked up a recipe and gone to the supermarket myself (or sent my husband which I usually do) I would still have everything I needed handy and I probably would have been able to make these dishes for less money. But then, I probably wouldn’t have bothered to look up a recipe on an ordinary Wednesday and Thursday. So I think a service like Hello Fresh does help to add value to people’s lives. These services sort of force you to go that extra mile for yourself and your family a few times every week instead of just a handful of times per year on the big holidays. Of course, the expense is something else completely. It might be even more convenient and more fun to just take that $70 and go out to dinner once a week.

Cooking for your family, or even cooking for yourself is always a good thing…

But the three recipes I was sent cost less to make when you do your own shopping. And when you do your own shopping you don’t have to worry about any surprises that might turn up in your box. (I also had to throw away the potato from Hello Fresh and use one of my own. Theirs was going bad. The carrots were turning black on the skin too, but I didn’t have any of my own so I had to use them)

From Hello Fresh Trial to Hello Fresh Living?

Will I use Hello Fresh again? Why not? But will I use Hello Fresh every week? No. Maybe I’ll try them once per month for now. I don’t have an extra $300 to spare monthly for just 3 dinners per week. $300 is a whole grocery bill for a month’s worth of food for some people. With Hello Fresh you’re spending about $300 for 9 dinners per month. Maybe that’s nothing for people who regularly go out to eat; but it’s not the smartest use of $300 for me right now.

This MARC JACOBS Striped sweater

March Jacobs Stripe Cashmere Crewneck Sweater

Saw this MARC JACOBS  Striped sweater on stylebop.com and instantly fell in love. Didn’tlove the $509 price tag necessarily but did love the bright colorful stripes  and the style of the sweater. Must admit, didn’t notice the distressed aspects at first. It’s a gorgeous sweater but personally could do without the distressed look. Kind of hard to get the mind to see it as “high style” instead of “your sweater is old and it’s time to throw it out.”

Stylebop.com describes the sweater as having “fun colors, distressed rips and thick stripes” which combine to make it “a youthful but indulgent pick”.

Features

  • Multicolored striped cashmere with distressed detail, round neckline with self-tie now, ribbed trims
  • Slim silhouette
  • Fitted

Can see this styled with burgundy skinny jeans and topped with a red coat. A lot of bold colors, yes, but color is good for the mind and spirit.

The model is wearing a Marc Jacobs printed silk blouse under her striped sweater. It’s an interesting combination, the printed silk blouse with it’s pussy-bow tie under the striped sweater with it’s attached tie. If you had both of these items in your closet do you think it would have ever occurred to you to wear them together? The skirt is also from Marc Jacobs. It’s a black velvet a-line skirt adorned with a bow. Lots of extra adornments to this look. The shoes are MAISON MARGIELA toweringly high leather platform loafers and the bag is a Smythson dusk grey calf leather mini crossbody bag. The look is cute for sure.

#RANBonusBox goodies review

Yay! We received a Bonus Box from Rakuten Marketing last week. The #RANBonusbox contained items from brands like Halogen, LL Bean and TopShop. As always we were thrilled to be included among the 50 publishers who were chosen by the team at Rakuten to receive the Bonus Box. We thank them for providing us with the opportunity to discover new brands. We thank the brands for allowing us to try their products, and we thank you, our cherished reader, for allowing us to share our reviews of the products with you. Blogging can sometimes seem to be a thankless job. If you’re a blogger, we encourage you to look into joining the Rakuten Affiliate network if you are not already part of the network. We belong to a few other affiliate networks and only Rakuten has made us feel like we are associated with a company that values us as affiliates and that’s invested in our mutual success. So check them out.

The box contained a knit hat from LL Bean, a smokey eye palette from TopShop, sample perfumes from The Limited, a coupon from Vestiaire Collective, 3 sample items from Memebox, a silk Halogen scarf from Nordstrom, a stained lip gloss from buy.com, a $50 gift card from JCPenney, a soft touch razor and cartridge refill pack from Dorco, and a sample mud mask from Ahava.

The Ahava Purifying Mud Mask

Ahava Time To Clear Purifying Mud Mask

ahava time to clear purifying mud mask

Ahava Purifying mud mask is said to deeply clean and detoxify pores for a fresh, even complexion. We see a lot of people swearing by it in the reviews on the Ahava.com website. Of course we can’t render an opinion based on the 2 uses we got out of our 0.68 fl.oz sample tube. But the product has a 4.8 star out of 5-stars rating with 130 reviews. Of the 130 reviews 106 were 5-star reviews and 22 were 4-star reviews. We’re going to spend $10 to purchase another sample size to give it a try because we definitely need something that will address our acne issues and many of the reviewers rave about it for that purpose.

More reviews coming soon.

Thanks for reading.

#RANBonusBox #Memebox trials and reviews

Last week we received a Bonus Box from Rakuten Marketing. The #RANBonusBox contained some trial products from memebox.com, a website that sells Korean Beauty, Skincare & Makeup products.

The products we had a chance to try:

  • a matte lipstick
  • a facial cream
  • a botanical mask

Check below for our reviews.

The Reviews…

Pony Effect Stay Fit Matte Lip Color

memebox pony effect stay fit matte lipcolor

This is described as an ultra-pigmented lipstick that applies creamy and dries to a long-lasting matte finish that won’t overly dry out.

Number of days tried: 2

Hours worn: approximately 24

Pros: lipstick is indeed ultra pigmented. It does apply creamy and quickly dries to a matte finish. It is definitely long-lasting. So much so, you need lipstick remover or soap and water to get it off completely. It’s a matte lipstick so it does dry out, but as long as you don’t put on too much you don’t really notice in any insistent way.

Cons: If you happen to have lines in your lips it will settle into your lines and make your lips look very wrinkly.

Recommendation: If your lips don’t have a lot of fine lines this product is worth trying. If your lips do have a lot of fine lines you should probably avoid it. For that matter you should reconsider matte lipstick altogether unless it is specifically made for aging lips.

Bonvivant Botanical Pure Mask

MeMeBox bonvivant botanical face mask
Monica trying out the bonvivant botanical facial mask

“This mask was interesting to use. The package was in Korean so I had no idea how to use it. I simply removed it from the package, put it on my face and kept it on until the mask began to dry out. It felt nice and cooling for a while. Of course after 1 use I can’t say it did anything in particular to my face. But I liked it well enough to want to try it again.”

Information about this mask from the memebox.com website:

The Bonvivant 100% Botanical Mask line boasts au naturale sheets crafted with 100% Eucalyptus-derived elements that gently adhere to the skin without any irritation. They’re enriched with a top-notch blend of oriental fruit extracts like Mulberry, Fig, Pomegranate, and Gingko Nut that naturally protect and revitalize skin. This refreshing line comes in 6 concentrated superfood essences, each with its own unique benefit that caters to specific skin concerns, so your skin is covered no matter what mood it’s in. The Adenosine + Acai sheet mask restores damaged, tired skin. Adenosine re-energizes, while Acai Extract delivers rich antioxidants to strengthen skin and protect it from toxins and environmental pollutants.

Nooni Deep Water Therapy Facial Cream

memebox nooni deep water therapy facial cream

According to the information on the card that was included in the Bonus Box, this product replenishes collagen. We are currently trying out the product. It’s of course too early to comment on whether or not the product does what it claims.

It’s always nice to be able to try new things . We thank memebox.com for giving us the opportunity to try their products. And we thank the guys at Rakuten Marketing for sending us the Bonus Box. If you’re a blogger and you don’t belong to the Rakuten Affiliate Network, go join!

The Moda Edit – what we want

We’re browsing through the Moda Operandi ‘curated edit of the best pieces from the Fall/Winter collections’ and picking out the ones we wish we could get our hands on. We’ll start with this gorgeous Johanna Ortiz dress.

johanna ortiz dress multi-anne-boleyn-embellished-dress

It comes with a $4,250 price tag so we can’t exactly afford it; but if we were so fortunate to have the necessary bank account, we would definitely give serious consideration to buying this M’O Exclusive Anne Boleyn Dress.

The dress is described as having a “fluted sheath silhouette and a plunging v-neckline.

It is made from 100% guipure lace

what we love

We love everything about the dress; but we’re especially in love with the puff sleeves and the ruffled hem. (Purchase here)

Second…

This gorgeous Dolce & Gabbana floral printed blouse

Dolce & Gabbana floral printed blouse

This blouse is made from 100% silk. We love the bright big pink/red flowers against the black silk. We’re not sure but we think those are tulips. Like the Johanna Ortiz dress this top is out of the price range that we can afford. It costs $1,175. (Purchase here)

Third…

Isabel Marant Red Anders Mini Asymmetric Wrap-over Skirt

Isabel Marant Red Anders Mini Asymmetric Wrap-over Skirt

Okay, so this skirt isn’t really leather. It’s vinyl. And since it’s not leather but vinyl, the $530 price tag seems a bit high. But if we had the money to afford it we’d still buy it. We like the wrap-over style and the sided-knot detail. Not to mention the hot red color. The patent shine might be a little tough to pull off if we were to be trying to fit this skirt into our current lifestyle. But if we were able to afford a $530 skirt we’d probably be living a different lifestyle and would be able to pull off this skirt more easily. (Purchase here)

Fourth…

Dolce & Gabbana Lace Pencil Skirt

Dolce & Gabbana lace pencil skirt

With a price tag of $3845 this Dolce & Gabbana lace skirt is another out of budget item that we wish we were wealthy enough to be able to afford. The skirt is said to be ‘crafted from delicate lace with a sewn-in floral design and scalloped hem‘. We’re in love with the floral design. And we love how the skirt is styled in this picture below with a Dolce & Gabbana sheer chiffon blouse that has a built-in lace-edged camisole underneath.  (Purchase here)

Fifth…

Johanna Ortiz M’O Exclusive Maxmiliana Shirt

Johanna Ortiz M'O Exclusive Maxmiliana Shirt

It might be a little bit ornate for every day wear, but we love this shirt from Johanna Ortiz. As with the Johanna Ortiz dress, we cannot afford this skirt, even though the price tag is under $1000. $695 is still out of budget for us. (Purchase here)

JUS By Julie JUS + Soup 3 day cleanse review interview with Angella

My Fashion Wants: What was your reason for trying the JUS by Julie 3-Day Jus + Soup cleanse?

Angella: I wanted to see if it would help me with getting back some energy—feeling energized—and getting a jumpstart and feeling more motivation towards exercising. And I also wanted to see if it could help me lose a couple of pounds.

My Fashion Wants: And did you find that it helped with any of these things?

Angella: Yes, actually I did. Even though by the second day I was ready to devour everything in sight just to be able to chew on something solid, I managed to stick it out. And after the third day was over and done with I didn’t find that I wanted to jump on the first solid thing I could find, or eat anything unhealthy (because I do have a sweet tooth). And I did feel that overall my body was looking a little less tubby.JUS By Julie JUS + Soup 3 day cleanse

Shop JUS By Julie juice cleanses

My Fashion Wants: How would you describe your experience with the cleanse?

Angella: My experience with it was that it wasn’t at all what I thought it might have been. I didn’t expect to actually enjoy the food. Even though I don’t know that the food was sufficiently filling. I did kind of feel at times a lack of sustenance. I felt like I couldn’t wait for my next drink/soup. But as each day progressed. I realized that at the end of the cleanse I would actually be benefiting from having my internal body cleaned of adulterants, and so, by the end of the second day I actually wished that I had elected to do more than the 3 days. It felt good to have my meals pre-planned and ready for me. I think that was probably the biggest benefit. Because if I was in public and didn’t have my food with me, the temptation to eat something would have been greater. But having the food already prepared and being able to take it with me made it easier to stick to the cleanse. And although I did feel a little deprived of food, I never felt so weak like I was going to faint. I didn’t feel angry or frustrated like people can sometimes get when hungry. And when it was done I almost didn’t want to put back anything into my body that would begin the corrupting process again.

So, on the fourth day I actually continued a completely liquid diet. I bought some juices and made some soup. But by the fifth day, I felt I had to re-introduce some salad and other solids. But I did have mostly juices and soups on that day as well. I have since had some sweets here and there; but I am still mostly on a good track.

My Fashion Wants: So you would say the cleanse was effective?

Angella: Yes, definitely. It helped to jump-start my effort to get myself back on track, which was my main purpose for doing it.

My Fashion Wants: Would you ever try another JUS by Julie cleanse and would you recommend the cleanse to others?

Angella: Yes, absolutely I would try it again if I had the financial means to afford it. I did follow up about buying some soups and juices the day I finished the cleanse. But after I checked the prices it seemed to make more sense to buy the necessary ingredients from the grocery store and make my own juices and soups. It would be convenient to have it arrive on my doorstep already made and ready to be consumed; but I think it’s not in my budget right now. And yes, I would recommend it to a friend.

JUS by Julie 3-Day Jus + Soup cleanse review interview with Charlene

My Fashion Wants: Aside from that you were invited by My Fashion Wants to participate in a team trial review, what was your reason for trying the JUS by Julie 3-Day Jus + Soup cleanse?

Charlene: I wanted to try to lose a quick 3 or so pounds.

My Fashion Wants: And were you successful in reaching that goal?

Charlene: Yes, I lost three pounds.

My Fashion Wants: You had a little mishap where you had to order the cleanse twice. What happened?

Charlene: The first time I ordered the item I was not at home when it came in and it sat in the box until the next day. So it was not refrigerated for about 20 hours. Then I waited an extra day before I started it. So nearly 48 hours had passed by the time I started the cleanse. When I did start, I noticed that the first soup looked a little frothy and was leaking. And when I opened the cover I noticed there was a lot of condensation. I had already had one of the juices and around the time I noticed the soup looked odd, I also started to get a little tummy ache. I thought it might be because the juice had bananas in it, but since the soup looked strange I decided to check with the JUS by Julie people to find out if the items were still usable after being left out of the fridge so long. They said the items were probably no longer good, so I had to throw them out and re-order.

My Fashion Wants: Talk about your experience with the cleanse

Charlene: I was able to get through the cleanse on the first day. It was rough but I made it. On Day 2, Saturday, I went to a festival with my kids and I somehow managed to forget I was doing a cleanse long enough to eat off a bag of chips. But I resumed the cleanse once I realized what I had done. Day 3 was Sunday, and I really messed up on Day 3. Things started off well; but by about 4 o’clock I went and ate some fig bars. I tried to get back on track, and I was able to for the most part. But then I had to make dinner for the kids. And my will just wasn’t strong enough. I figured since I had already messed up I might as well just eat dinner. So I did.

In my defense, I tried the cleanse at a time when I had already been deprived of food for about a month. I hadn’t been eating normal amounts of food. And I had just started back eating. So when I started the cleanse, my mind was not on doing it. But I had already agreed and so I tried. But it didn’t quite work. Even so, I still lost 3 pounds.

My Fashion Wants: So would you ever try another JUS by Julie cleanse and would you recommend the cleanse to others?

Charlene: I would want to try another one yes. In fact I followed up about making another purchase but I can’t pay the full price right now so I’ll have to put it off for another time. And yes, I would recommend the cleanse. I liked the soups a lot. They reminded me of home (the Caribbean). The juices were good too. I liked the spicy pomegranate best.

JUS By Julie JUS + Soup 3 day cleanse review interview with Bryan

My Fashion Wants: So you recently tried a JUS By Julie JUS + Soup 3 day cleanse. What was your purpose for trying the cleanse?

Bryan: [I did a JUS by Julie 3 day juice cleanse earlier in the year] My experience with it last time — I remember feeling pretty good afterward. I had intended to do another one for a while; but time had gotten away from me. It’s always good to try to be as healthy as possible. So when I was asked by you (My Fashion Wants) if I wanted to participate in a team trial of the JUS By Julie JUS + Soup 3 day cleanse, I said yes.

My Fashion Wants: And how did the cleanse turn out for you the second time around?

Bryan: I don’t think it had that much of an impact to be honest.  It wasn’t like the first time. I didn’t feel as good at the end as I did the first time. I found it harder the second time around. Even though I did manage to complete it, I personally think that the 3-day JUS cleanse was easier to do than the 3-Day JUS + Soup.

My Fashion Wants: Can you elaborate on that?

Bryan: I went into this JUS + Soup cleanse expecting that it would be easier than the Juice cleanse I did earlier in the year. I figured that the soups would help to keep me from getting hungry. Well, I was hungrier doing the JUS + Soup cleanse than I was when all I had were just the juices. The soups weren’t more filling than the juices the way I had expected them to be, and they didn’t taste better than the juices. So for me, there wasn’t much of a trade off. I would have preferred to do the 3-Day Juice cleanse if I’d known that the JUS + Soup wasn’t really going add any value to the cleanse. Because I think with the JUS + Soup 3-day cleanse there was less to eat than with the first cleanse.

JUS by Julie 3 day cleanse JUS + Soup

My Fashion Wants: Were you hungry throughout the entire 3-days or only on some days?

Bryan: I was hungry throughout, but it was harder the first day. The last day was the easiest to get through but I was still hungry on that day as well.

My Fashion Wants: So it was torture then?

Bryan: No, I wouldn’t say it was torture. It was difficult. Anytime you want to eat but you’re consciously denying yourself the things you want to eat, it’s going to be hard to do that for 24 hours much less for 72 hours.  But I wouldn’t go so far to say it was torture.

My Fashion Wants: How would you describe the JUS by Julie juices and soups?

Bryan: The juices were good. I liked the juices. I didn’t so much love the soups. They were okay, and under the influence of hunger I might have acted like they were the best thing I’ve  ever tasted. But I probably wouldn’t want to do the soups if I ever tried another cleanse. I thought the soups weren’t very filling.

My Fashion Wants: Would you ever do another JUS by Julie cleanse?

In the midst of it I was sure that I would never ever do it again. But now that it’s behind me, I’d say yes, I would. But if I were to try another cleanse at any point, I wouldn’t do the same one (JUS By Julie JUS + Soup 3 day cleanse). It would have to be one that comes with more than 3 juices and 3 soups. I’d sooner do the first cleanse with the 6 juices (or was it 5?) and no soups. I do think it’s good to have the ability to switch between soups and juices, but I’m not convinced that this particular combination that I tried was the best way to do it.

Lancome Visionnaire (advanced skin corrector) Review

This Lancome Visionnaire Advanced Skin Corrector review is based on my trial of the product. I paid for the product with my own money.

The first time I heard about Lancome Visionnaire I was desperate to try the line. I was just beginning to see irrefutable signs of aging in my face and I wanted to halt them in their tracks. Lancome promised that their Visionnaire products could fix all signs of aging. And based on the product write up and lancome visionnaire review claims I’d read, I figured their anti-aging products were exactly what I needed. But I didn’t have money to afford such  expensive anti-aging products. So I settled for a concoction I put together with Shea butter and cocoa butter. The concoction did work wonders by the way.

Advance a few years and I finally managed to get my hands on a bottle of Lancome Visionnaire Advanced Skin corrector. I purchased a bottle from Macy’s back in August 2016. It cost me $79. I was very excited to finally be able to try it out; but I have to admit that I was very disappointed with my Lancome Visionnaire experience.

My Lancome Visionnaire Review

I don’t know if Lancome Visionnaire Advanced Skin Corrector does any of the things it claims because my $79 bottle of Lancome Visionnaire Advanced Skin Corrector did not last me long enough for me to be able to tell if it does anything for real. I wasn’t using the product every day because I had a lot of other products that I was alternating between. The Lancome Visionnaire, because it was so expensive, was being used sparingly. So you can imagine my shock and disappointment when, one morning I went to use it and I could not get anything out of the bottle. I was flabbergasted. I could not make sense of what was going on. How was it possible that I could be out of the product already? It simply wasn’t possible. The bottle wasn’t tiny enough to make sense of what seemed to be the case–that it was empty already.

I figured there had to be some type of glitch with the bottle, but no matter what I did to try to get more product to come out, nothing came out. The bottle was empty.

I guess I should have realized that, despite the impressive size of the container, 1FL OZ of product meant that the container was way bigger than it needed to be…

And just because it was big didn’t mean it contained a lot of product. In reality, most of it was just the container. And I have to admit, I find it rather dishonest that Lancome makes the container look quite so big and impressive when the amount of product it contains is next to nothing. But I guess if they had put it in a suitably sized container, they would not have gotten $79 from someone like myself who has to weigh all those factors when deciding what products to try. I definitely would not have bought it had it been in a container that was half the size. Not for $79.

lancome visionnaire review bottle size comparison

This is how the bottle matches up against a 16.9 FL OZ water bottle. For that size I expected it to last me a little while, especially given that I was not using it every day and used only a small amount when I did use it.

So does Lancome Visionnaire do any of what it promises?

Lancome Visionnaire promises the following:

Visionnaire [LR 2412 4% – Cx] is a second generation serum with the Double Jasmonate Complex and new smoothing ingredients that correct wrinkles, pores and skin texture in real time, and over time.

In one application: skin feels smoother and softer.*
In three days: skin texture is refined and pores are less visible.*
In four weeks: wrinkles, pores and skin texture are visibly corrected.*
Women see it. Clinical tests prove It.*
75% of Women see visible skin transformation.**
*Based upon a clinical test. 108 women – 4 weeks.
**Based on consumer evaluations of all subjects tested at 4 weeks.

Whether or not Lancome does any of what it promises, I have no idea. My container did not last long enough for me to find out. And I certainly wasn’t going to buy another bottle to complete my testing. I was frankly disgusted and felt like I had been tricked and fooled.

Yellow top blue skirt silver accessories

Yellow top blue skirt silver accessories outfit details: yellow long sleeved polyester top with blue and yellow print no-sew wrap skirt, blue #justfab pumps, and silver bangles fashioned into hoop earrings and hoops necklace. (no-sew wrap skirt means I fashioned a wrap skirt out of a piece of fabric. So my skirt isn’t really a skirt. It’s a piece of cloth that I wrapped around me to make a skirt)

More about Yellow top blue skirt silver accessories…

With everything that’s going on in the world it’s difficult to find inspiration for up-keeping a fashion blog these days; but on Friday last week I managed to find a few hours to do a little photo shoot for the purpose of writing a ‘Style Practice’ blog entry.

My closet remains very  limited so usually when I have impulses to do sessions for style practice I have to squelch them on account of having nothing to practice with. But I remembered that I had tried this very yellow top blue skirt combination a few months back and taken a selfie to post to my Instagram. And I had thought it was an interesting combination. So I decided to recreate it for a style practice blog post. And I used my cheap silver bangle bracelets to make hoop earrings and a necklace to accessorize the outfit.

Yellow top blue skirt silver accessories 2Unfortunately on Saturday morning my computer died and I lost all but two of the pictures from the shoot. Luckily I had emailed these two to myself so I could download them to my phone in order to change my hair color to blue in my Perfect365 app. I’ve recently cut my hair to a nearly bald length, and I’m thinking about alternating between blue, green, red and purple hair color. But I don’t have the courage to put color in my hair yet so I’m doing it digitally for now.

As you can see I’m still limited to taking my pictures in my unimpressive living room, but that’s all I’ve got for now. And to be frankly honest, I’m too self conscious to take pictures of myself in public places anyway. But I do still plan to try to do some shoots in locations other than inside my apartment. Not sure when that will happen, but in the meantime, I won’t let not having money for great clothes and for traveling to great locations be a reason not to keep after my goals.

Playing dress-up #JustFab Mannon floral pumps

0

I bought these pumps on clearance from justfab.com a few weeks ago. I picked up two pairs of pumps, a dress, a skirt and a blouse for a total of $39.95. You’d figure that many items for so small an amount of money would mean that everything would turn out to be a bunch of crap, but that was far from the case. While we’re not talking designer quality merchandise (whatever that is), everything is wearable and of decent enough quality to hold up a little while. The #JustFab Mannon floral pumps are even prettier in person than they were in the pictures that made me want to get them. I can’t really walk effortlessly in them; but they fit perfectly.

justfab mannon floral pumps red top blue jeans

I have a few outfit ideas for these JustFab Mannon floral pumps. Above, I am wearing the pumps with a red top and blue jeans. I put the look together on Sunday and spent the morning taking photos for this post. I didn’t actually wear this outfit to go anywhere. High heels are still just for playing dress-up in my living room. Still can’t walk in them well enough to chance wearing them out of the house. For going out I would typically wear this outfit with a pair of sneakers or flat sandals.

FYI: My hair is not dyed red in reality. I changed the color digitally using the Perfect365 app.

I wish my living room was more interesting, or better yet, that my life was more interesting. Then I could take these pictures in exotic locales or at the very least in a more attractive interior space. I’m hoping to do some work on the decor. Definitely need a new couch and sofa and a couple of interesting area rugs. And maybe some window curtains? We shall see.

Latest closet additions – the JustFab print wrap dress

JustFab green blue white print dress 1-MHello all. Summer came and is soon to go. I haven’t been updating much, but I’m hoping that will change soon. Here’s a quick “Latest Closet Additions” post to showcase one of the items (a print wrap dress) I have recently added to my closet. As I am still scraping by, my new closet addition isn’t the dreamed after Louboutin heels or the Valentino dress. But maybe that’s a good thing, because I think when I finally get around to making those high end purchases I’m going to feel really stupid for doing it.

Back in June, JustFab.com got me again. Remember last year when I forgot to skip a month and got $40 charged to my credit card. It happened again. But like last year, I’m not really all that upset because I was able to apply the $40 to the purchase of a new pair of shoes. And while I was at it, I also purchased a dress. Then after my items arrived, I went to the Justfab.com website to cancel my membership. I saw that they were having a clearance sale so I checked it out. I’m kind of glad I did because now I think I will stay with JustFab a little longer in case they should have more clearance sales. I was able to pick up a top and a skirt, two pairs of shoes and this print wrap dress for under $50. And, while they don’t fulfill my high end fantasies, they are still perfectly adequate.

Here are some pictures of the dress. It’s a green/navy/white print wrap dress. I haven’t found occasion to wear it out yet. I’ve only put it on a few times to do a photo session for the purpose of illustrating this post.

JustFab green blue white print wrap dress

justfab green blue white print wrap dressThe dress is comfortable enough. It fits well. I did have to pin up the part that wraps across the bosom in order to avoid showing any cleavage. And the part that wraps at the hem area does give a little trouble when sitting. It shows a lot more leg than I generally feel comfortable showing.

justfab green blue white print wrap dress with green Qupid pumps

But I do like the dress and hope that I will have occasion to wear it out soon. For the photos I wore a pair of green pumps purchased back in 2015. I haven’t actually worn these pumps out anywhere because I don’t wear high heels to go out. But they were perfect for this dress. I also tried them with blue pumps which work just as well as the green I think.

Where to buy cheap Givenchy clothes?

Why are you looking for cheap Givenchy clothes?

Givenchy clothes are not supposed to be cheap. If they were cheap you wouldn’t be wanting to buy them because the Givenchy brand wouldn’t have the reputation that it does. What makes Givenchy clothes what they are is as much the price tag as the styles. Givenchy merchandise are supposed to be items of luxury. Items of luxury require a big price tag to qualify as items of luxury. So looking for cheap Givenchy clothes is kind of a contradiction in terms.

The only way to acquire cheap Givenchy clothes is to buy used Givenchy merchandise at places that sell pre-owned high end designer stuff. But in a way that kind of takes away from the sense of luxury because you’ll always be aware it was someone else’s old stuff that you bought.

The whole idea behind designer labels is to be able to say you can afford to buy expensive things. People pay exorbitant prices for high end merchandise because it makes them feel special to know that they have the money to afford it. If you offered them the exact same thing but without the high end designer label and the requisite high price tag, they wouldn’t buy it. Then again, they will buy something with a high end designer label for the name alone. So the name is the primary factor. If a Givenchy scarf comes with a $25 price tag it’s still a Givenchy scarf, so high end label shoppers aren’t going to scoff at it because it only costs $25.

If you’re searching for cheap Givenchy clothes…

Dear you, I know you’re not going to listen to a single thing I say. Who the heck am I after all? Why should you care what I think about anything? I get it. And I agree. You shouldn’t care what I think about anything; but here’s what I think anyway.

It’s okay to want the so-called finer things in life. And if you can get those things then by all means get them. I like clothes as much as anyone else, and I definitely have come to realize that the nicest things around are the ones that are priced to be out of the reach of girls who don’t have ‘pretty girl’ bank accounts.

Ever notice that pretty girls generally have more money than not pretty girls?

Yeah, so pretty girls usually have nicer things because they can afford them. Sometimes they have nicer things because people just give them stuff because they are so pretty and popular. The rest of us? Well, we have to try ten times harder to get our hands on the nicer things, and even then, sometimes we still can’t catch a break. So we have to go looking for other ways we can get the nicer things. Sometimes that means buying what the pretty girls have already used. But even then, some of us still can’t afford the used designer merchandise. Can be pretty deflating to the ego.

But what is the answer? Is the answer to give up and make the most of what you have? Is the answer to recognize that things are just things and that people are fools who will spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars for things that are ridiculously overpriced just because those things have a label like Givenchy?

I think the answer is to do what feels right to you. The world is always going to be the way that it is. You and I, we are not always going to be here. I think that while we’re here we should be able to live the way that makes us feel most content. So if you’re not feeling content with your life and you think the reason is because you don’t have Givenchy clothes, well then, find a way to acquire the Givenchy clothes you desire. Because you deserve to have what you desire in life. If other people can have these things, why not you? But do keep in mind that these are just things and that while they might be nicer than what you can afford, they aren’t necessary to have in order to feel like you are worthy.

Do anti-wrinkle beauty pillows work?

0

The anti-wrinkle beauty pillow, does it really work? Can a pillow really do anything to help you fight mother nature’s will to turn your lovely youthful face into something resembling a prune?

What’s the real truth about anti-wrinkle beauty pillows?

Imagine a pillow that can help you fight nature. Does it seem to make sense? The truth of the matter is, we’re going to age. No matter how hard we try, mother nature is going to beat us at this game we play of trying to defy her will. But there are things that happen to age us faster that have nothing to do with mother nature. Those things are things that we can try to do something about. Aging faster than normal because of our bad habits, we can do something about that. We can fix our bad habits or find ways to reduce the harm being caused by our bad habits. This is where the idea of an anti-wrinkle beauty pillow being able to help you fight the signs of aging becomes more plausible.

It isn’t that your anti-wrinkle beauty pillow is going to reverse already existing signs of aging or stop you from getting new wrinkles. You’re going to get wrinkles.

Your anti-wrinkle beauty pillow is only going to help you prevent wrinkles that happen due to not properly protecting your face when you sleep.

Save My Face Le Grand White Satin Pillow

Save My Face Le Grand White Satin Pillow

The claim on this pillow is that it will suspend your face while you are stomach or side sleeping, and by doing so, will “reduce facial compression which can cause wrinkling and premature aging”. The makers also claim that this pillow will help to improve breathing by opening your nasal passages.

This anti-wrinkle beauty pillow is available via Amazon.com

Do you ever wake up some mornings and look just horrid?

Most of us have that experience. Some mornings we wake up and look in the mirror and are aghast at what we see. We’re usually so stunned that we don’t stop to think to ourselves that we’re just seeing the results of really bad night (not enough sleep, tossing and turning, fighting with our pillow to get the right comfortable position)

After a while, enough of those sleepless nights will begin to have a lasting impact on our appearance. The lines and creases, the sagging–they will not go away once we get our day started.

Anti-wrinkle beauty pillows work to prevent developing wrinkles directly as a result of poor sleep

Anti-wrinkle beauty pillows are not magic devices. If you have wrinkles already, they will not get rid of your existing wrinkles. And they will not prevent you from developing wrinkles naturally. Nature will still take it’s course. But your anti-wrinkle beauty pillow can combat what damage your poor sleeping habits might be causing to happen to your face.

Into the blue

0

I never thought I had a favorite color, but ever since I started using Instagram I’ve noticed that I wear a lot of blue. And I’ve also come to realize that I feel more energized and more positive when I’m wearing bold bright shades of blue.

A few days ago I got dressed in a pair of turquoise blue skinny jeans and an electric blue top and took some pictures in my living room just for the fun of it. My outfit was nothing special. The top is from Amazon and cost me under $10. The jeans are a thrift store purchase. The blue Qupid pumps are from DSW. Everything is old.

I threw on a cheap wig, put on some makeup and some cheap jewelry (bought from Amazon earlier in the year), and I setup my camera on a tripod and used the self-timer to capture some pics of myself posing in my not-so-impressive living room.

royal blue top turquoise blue skinny jeans blue pumps 1

I’m not a particularly stylish person. My personal style is pretty basic. It could be because I don’t have a lot of clothes to work with. Or it could be because I don’t have a very active social life. I work from home and rarely go places that require much effort at getting dressed. I’m inclined to think it’s because I don’t have a lot of clothes to work with. Because I do like to get dressed up and have fun pretending at modeling. So if I could afford to fill my closet with more things I definitely would.

royal blue top turquoise blue skinny jeans blue pumps 3

Is this an outfit that I’m likely to wear in reality? Minus the high heels (I don’t wear high heels out and about), this is definitely an outfit that I would wear. I’m pretty sure it’s an outfit that I’ve worn in the last couple of months (without the jewelry since I hate having jewelry on for any extended length of time)

What is the best under eye bag beauty pillow?

0

Is there an under eye bag beauty pillow, as in a beauty pillow that is designed to get rid of under eye bags?

Under eye bags. We all get them at one point or another, but for some of us, under eye bags don’t just come on those mornings when we wake up from a night of partying a little hard. Temporary under eye bags are easy enough to get rid of, but if you have under eye bags that only surgery can remove and you can’t afford or don’t want surgery, you might be able to do things to minimize them. There might not be such a thing as an under eye bag beauty pillow specifically; but a beauty pillow can be used in addition to other remedies to try to minimize your under eye bags.

So what is the best under eye bag beauty pillow?

Beauty pillows are not designed for the purpose of treating under eye bags. However, the best under eye bag beauty pillow is likely to be the beauty pillow that allows you to sleep most soundly through the night.

If you have under eye bags, then you know that they tend to look ten times worse when you wake up in the morning having not had adequate sleep. Adequate sleep isn’t just get the recommended number of hours of sleep, it is also getting a sound and restful sleep. If you have under eye bags and you’re not getting enough sleep every night (and also sleeping well), your under eye bags are going to look more pronounced in the morning. So shop for a beauty pillow that will help you get a good night’s rest.

The fruits and flowers flared print skirt

0

Back in April I purchased some items of clothing at Amazon.com. One of the items I purchased was a fruit and flowers flared print skirt. The skirt is described on Amazon as a “High Quality Cotton + Spandex” skirt with a floral pattern, two open pockets and a concealed zipper.

Back when I received the skirt I was pleasantly surprised by the effort that went into the packaging. It was neatly folded and placed in a brand labeled zip top bag. The packaging made it seem like the skirt was of a higher quality than the price suggested. Of course I know that just because it was well packaged doesn’t make the skirt anything other than what it is. It’s a cheap skirt; but it’s a cute skirt. And it’s well enough made to be actually worn in public.

The thing I like best about this flared print skirt is its versatility. It can be worn with so many different color tops.

Here are some pics I took to illustrate how the skirt looks with a number of different colored tops.

The fruits and flowers flared print skirt with…

In this look I paired the skirt with a turquoise blue tank top and wore a peach shirt over the tank top.

With the red cowl neck long sleeved top…

This is a picture I took shortly after purchasing the skirt. The red, long-sleeved cowl-neck style top was purchased at the same time as the skirt with the intention of wearing the two together.

With a mustard yellow sleeveless top…

Grace Karin apples pomegranates fruits and flowers print skater skirt mustard yellow sleeveless top

I love how the skirt looks with this thrift store purchased mustard yellow top. And I think the red watch finishes the look perfectly.

With an olive green shirt…

Grace Karin apples pomegranates fruits and flowers print skater skirt green button front top

I’ve had this olive green shirt in my closet for so many years I’m embarrassed to say how many. But I’m not at liberty to throw things out or stop wearing them just because I’ve had them for a certain amount of time. Even a cheap top that I bought from Walmart years ago.

With the turquoise tank top by itself…

Grace Karin fruits and flowers flared print skirt turquoise tank top

If you have a turquoise tank top but don’t have a peach over-shirt the skirt works with just the turquoise tank top. No peach over-shirt needed. Personally I would have to wear a shirt with sleeves over the tank top.

With a red tank top…

Grace Karin apples pomegranates fruits and flowers print skater skirt red lace detail tank top 2

Here I’ve styled the skirt with a cute red tank top picked up from the thrift store. And in this last picture I’ve styled it with a different red tank top (the DAWGS tank featured here) worn under a yellow over-shirt.

Grace Karin apples pomegranates fruits and flowers print skater skirt yellow shirt over red tank top

So there you have some of my ideas for styling this fruits and flowers flared print skirt or a similar looking skirt. These looks are for laid back girls who generally take a quick and simple approach to style.

This skirt also looks great with a basic t-shirt. So you can wear it with a simple t-shirt in green, blue, peach, yellow, white, red and I’m sure other colors that haven’t occurred to me.

What do you think about the skirt? Would you wear it? If so, how would you style it?
