How to Throw an Awesome Party

Knowing how to throw a killer party is a talent not many of us have, unfortunately, but which is very important at this day and age. Attending a party and having a good time is easy, but how do you make sure that the party you’re throwing is going to be awesome? The key is in doing the groundwork and making sure you’ve got everything covered before the guests arrive. If you want your next party to be amazing and for everyone to have a good time, we’ve put together a list of things you should do in order to make it happen.

Pick the spot

First things first – where will your party be? To answer this question, you first need to know how many people are you planning on inviting and roughly how many of them will be able to attend. If you’re throwing a casual party for coworkers, you should pick a neutral ground and go to a café or a restaurant, but if you’re gathering your oldest friends after a long time, you can easily do it at your home, in your apartment or your backyard.

Choose a theme

Even though most of us love Halloween and an occasional chance to play dress-up, we rarely have a chance to do so, so why not come up with a theme for your party? A theme is a great idea that will give your party an edge and people will start getting excited weeks in advance. Ugly sweater parties are a thing, as well as retro themes, and even murder mystery and Prohibition.

Think about music

It’s virtually impossible to imagine a good party without good music, and you should take time to think about your playlist. A fair warning – it takes longer than you might think at first, and be prepared to get frustrated and angry after a couple of hours. Since you’re the host, you shouldn’t be playing music all night long but rather socialize, so you could talk to one of our friends and ask them to act as a DJ for the evening. On the other hand, they might want to socialize too, and you could think about hiring a DJ for the occasion, which is even better if your party is going to be big.

Take care of food

Just like with music, you have to cover the food in advance. Sometimes a few bags of chips and a couple of boxes of pizza will suffice, but if you want to leave a good impression, you might want to take it to the next level. You can find catering companies specialized in different kinds of parties, from casual birthdays to galas and cocktail parties, and that would be a great choice. Not only would this mean that you’ll have the food covered, but they can also prepare vegetarian and vegan options as well as something for people who are lactose- and gluten-intolerant.

Entertain your guests

People attending your party might have a great time just talking to each other, but if you give them something else to do, they’ll enjoy it even more. While some might be perfectly content to talk to each other and listen to music, others might feel bored, and this is where entertainment activities step in. Prepare different activities that everyone can try because the freedom to choose is very important. Comfy and cozy nooks for talking are appreciated, a dance floor is also a great idea, and a photo booth is always a huge hit. If there is access to the outdoors, it’s a perfect chance to organize a couple of some competitive games too.

Sometimes even if you put in all the effort and do everything by the book, the party can be somehow flat. If that happens, there’s no need to despair and give up on throwing parties altogether. Sometimes you’ll have a “tough crowd” and that’s okay. The most important thing is not to give up and be willing to learn and improve all the time. If there’s something that didn’t work out, just skip it the next time you throw a party and try something new. For people with willingness and enthusiasm, good atmosphere comes naturally.
