Personal anecdote→ I don’t love cooking. But I cook for two people mostly every day. I make breakfast for one of them, not every day but often enough. And I make dinner for both of them, also not every day but most days. I don’t usually cook for myself because I don’t generally eat cooked food.
Yesterday I served the two people for whom I make dinner salmon and chick peas on romaine lettuce leaves.
I sauteed the salmon in olive oil in the Instant Pot. I used salt and black pepper to season it. Once cooked I removed the salmon from the Instant Pot and added a can of chickpeas to the Instant Pot with the remnants of oil and bits from sauteing the salmon. I let the chickpeas get slightly crisp. I then lined two plates with romaine lettuce leaves. First I put chickpeas on each lettuce leaf, then I put some pieces of salmon and called it dinner. I’ve decided to name this dish Salchiro Salad. Please, be careful when rolling your eyes too hard. I would hate if you were to injure yourself on my account. 🙂
Are chick peas good or bad for you to eat?
I came across a video once while researching ways to help one of the people for whom I cook deal with some digestive issues. It was one of the Dr. Gundry videos on YouTube. I was going to link to it, but I’ve just checked and there seem to be so many it will be tedious trying to figure out which one I saw. But in the video, he seemed to suggest that chick peas are not good for you. They apparently have high levels of lectins which are said to be something best to avoid. I won’t pretend to know anything about the subject so I’ll send you over to harvard.edu where there’s a published document on lectins that you can read to find out what they are and what problems they can cause etc. (Harvard article)
How a Salad Can Help You Stay Young
There is no one single food that can magically reverse the signs of aging, but a balanced diet that includes a variety of nutrient-dense foods can certainly help to slow down the aging process. Salmon and chickpeas are two such foods that are packed with nutrients and have been linked to numerous health benefits, including improved skin health, cognitive function, and heart health. In this article, we will explore the science behind these foods and how they may help to slow down the aging process.
Introduction
Aging is a natural process that happens to everyone, but that doesn’t mean we have to accept it without a fight. While there is no magical anti-aging potion, we can take steps to slow down the aging process and maintain our health as we get older. One way to do this is through our diet, and incorporating foods like salmon and chickpeas into our meals can provide a host of benefits.
Salmon for Anti-Aging
Salmon is a fatty fish that is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which have been shown to have numerous health benefits. One of these benefits is improved skin health. Omega-3s can help to reduce inflammation in the body, which can lead to less acne and fewer wrinkles. They also help to maintain the skin’s natural moisture barrier, which can keep the skin hydrated and supple.
In addition to its skin benefits, salmon has also been linked to improved cognitive function. The omega-3 fatty acids found in salmon are important for brain health, and studies have shown that they may help to improve memory and reduce the risk of cognitive decline as we age.
Finally, salmon is also good for heart health. It has been shown to help reduce the risk of heart disease by lowering triglycerides, reducing inflammation, and improving blood pressure. This is important for anti-aging, as heart disease is one of the leading causes of death in older adults.
Chickpeas for Anti-Aging
Chickpeas are a type of legume that are packed with nutrients, including protein, fiber, and vitamins and minerals like iron and zinc. They are also a good source of antioxidants, which can help to reduce inflammation and protect the body against oxidative stress.
One of the ways that chickpeas may help to slow down the aging process is through their impact on gut health. The fiber in chickpeas feeds the good bacteria in our gut, which can help to improve digestion and reduce inflammation. This, in turn, can lead to improved overall health and a reduced risk of chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease.
Chickpeas are also a good source of protein, which is important for maintaining muscle mass as we age. Muscle mass tends to decline as we get older, which can lead to frailty and a higher risk of falls and other injuries. Eating protein-rich foods like chickpeas can help to maintain muscle mass and reduce the risk of these issues.
