Hidden Home Hazards: What You Shouldn’t Ignore

Whether you recently moved into a new home or have lived there for years, there are always hidden home hazards to watch out for. There are specific areas that don’t need to be broken to require professional fixing. Continue reading to explore the hidden home hazards you shouldn’t ignore.

Puddles

Puddles are excellent to jump and play in—when they’re outside. The issue comes when pools of water happen inside. Puddles can accompany leaks, poor ventilation, and mold. Bathrooms are highly susceptible to mold and mildew when poor ventilation is present. Always turn on the bathroom vent fan when taking a hot shower or bath.

Check visible pipes for signs of condensation, moisture, and leaks. Ensure you check around your water heater for any puddles as well. The water heater is an often-forgotten piece of equipment that could leak without the homeowner knowing.

Burping and Gurgling

Are we talking about the same cute noises that babies make? We sure are! Your toilet and sinks shouldn’t be making this noise, and sounds from your drains could indicate significant problems. Food build-up in the garbage disposal, flushing items in the toilet you shouldn’t, and grease build-up all contribute to a sewer backup.

If you hear gurgling or burping coming from your pipes, you’re probably dealing with a sewage backup. You can also notice overflow happening in tubs, showers, sinks, and toilets. Unfortunately, a plunger won’t fix the problem. You should call a trusted local plumber to deal with the situation because handling raw sewage is a serious health hazard.

Radon

Not every area has to worry about this hidden home hazard, but you can’t ignore this gas if you live in a region with high radon levels. Radon is a highly radioactive, colorless, and odorless gas. It occurs naturally in small amounts in the atmosphere. The danger arises when radon accrues in homes and other enclosed spaces.

Radon can cause lung cancer, meaning inhaling the gas is horrible for every human’s health. Radon-level testing for your home provides many benefits, so don’t skip this essential aspect of home care. It could be the difference between good and bad health for you and your family.

Don’t sleep on any of these hidden home hazards. If you do, you could end up with significant home damage and health issues.
