Wednesday September 20th beauty sleep journal

Happy Thursday to my fellow sleeping beauties of all ages and genders. I have been awake for quite some time. Well, since about 10Am. I went to bed sometime in the region of 1AM to 1:30 AM. I did not sleep soundly through. So my estimate of the number of hours of sleep I got last night is between 7 – 7.5. At least it is better than the 4 – 6 that had become my norm for well over a decade. And I was able to manage it without having to take any sleeping aid, so that is a good thing. As far as the adventures in sleeping on the back instead of the sides or stomach, well, I think I managed to get ome of my sleep on my back; but it was another one of those nights where the room was too hot for comfort. So it didn’t help with my efforts, because it increased the amount of tossing and turning.

Are there really benefits to sleeping on the back instead of the sides or stomach?

I am asking myself this question today. Are there really benefits to sleeping on the back instead of the sides or stomach? I am just a beginner at back sleeping so I cannot offer any insight that is worthy of trusting. But so far, I am definitely seeing at least a benefit in my appearance. And I have yet to actually sleep on my back for an entire night.  So I’m hoping that once I get to a point where sleeping on the back is my norm, I will start to see double or even triple the improvement in my appearance when I wake up in the mornings.

I was talking to my mother recently (I mentioned in a previous post that she’s almost seventy years old and barely has any wrinkles in her face, certainly none on her neck and chest). I mentioned to her while we were talking that I was trying to make sure to get at least 8 hours of sleep at night, and she stressed how important that was to do. My mother has a lot of energy on top of still looking good at nearly seventy years of age. There is nothing haggard and old about her. So I listen to anything she says relative to the subject of how she is able to keep on going and fight the signs of aging without getting any kind of work done or using any super expensive beauty products. So I know at least I am on a good track with my efforts to conquer my sleep problems. And I have to keep on fighting and staying the course, not just in terms of sleeping on the back instead of the sides or stomach, but making sure that my sleep is contributing positively to my overall health and well-being.  I have a long way to go and a lot of years of damage to repair. My goal is to look like Halle Berry by the time I reach her age, Christie Brinkley by the time I reach her age, and Joan Collins by the time I reach her age.

Joan Collins looks amazing and shows that we don’t have to conform to the expectations of society that we treat ourselves like we’re useless and have no reason to still be enjoying life once we reach a certain age. I wonder if she sleeps on her back and what she would say about the question I’ve been asking myself today, about whether or not there are really benefits to sleeping on the back instead of the sides or stomach?

It doesn’t hurt to have the kind of money Joan has though. Although my mother is proof that you don’t really need to be rich to still look good in your senior years, it no doubt helps to have money to afford certain luxuries in skin care and fashion. My mother loves fashion, but I think if she had a stylist she would look even more amazing. Not that she doesn’t have a good sense of style, but your body does change with age and so you have to adjust your style to work for instead of against you. This is another important aspect of keeping ourselves looking and feeling our best; but that’s for a different blog I guess.

I would love to be able to interview famous beauties who have crossed over the age of 50 to ask them their thoughts on this whole back sleeping thing. Is it even a thing? But to find out what percentage of them sleep on their backs and if it is a conscious choice or just the way they’ve always slept. And get them to weigh in on whether or not there are benefits to sleeping on the back instead of the stomach. Plus get their other tips for maximizing the benefits of sleep–getting an adequate amount of sleep every night and sleeping soundly through the night.

This woman right here. I don’t know what it is, but Halle Berry at her present age is so sexy to me. I definitely have a girl crush. Her younger versions were beautiful, but this version is amazing. Her realness is hot hot hot. And it’s not sexual. I say she is sexy, but it’s the kind of sexy that has nothing to do with sex. An inspiration.

Wishing you a wonderful rest of the day and best of luck in your back sleeping efforts.

Fondly

Singer songwriter Adelamonica AKA Avenue Sixty editor in chief. Writing as Monica for The Monica Archives. Writing has always been one of my passions. In fact, when I was a teenager, I used to tell people they should remember my name, because I was going to become a famous author. I used to live to write and write to live--not in the sense of writing for income but writing to combat depression and to feel a sense of purpose. I've written novels, poems, articles and essays that I tried unsuccessfully to get published over many years starting in my teens. When I discovered blogging several ages ago, I turned to that avenue as a means of doing what I love without having to worry about publishers and their rejection letters. Modeling is also something I have always enjoyed and something I wanted very badly to do as a teenager. So badly that I used to lie and tell people I was a model. I would carry around a large portfolio style photo album and claim it was my modeling portfolio. But, as with my writing, the people with the power to make my modeling dreams come true saw nothing in me that made them stop me in the streets of New York to offer me a modeling contract with their agency. So when I discovered the ability to photograph my own self (before cell phones and selfies) I took up a hobby of pretend modeling at home and that hobby has remained with me throughout my life as a form of self expression and self therapy. I ask that you kindly excuse my lack of worldliness and any instances where I demonstrate lack of tact or lack of knowledge and even lack of basic intelligence in my writing and posing. I'm just here trying to have a little fun doing the things that make me happy. I'm just an average human for whom writing and posing and singing and dancing and the other things I do are ways I express myself and keep myself going on this ever challenging journey of life. I hope you will find something even remotely useful or interesting in the things I share.
