The turban frenzy

As time flies, we reinvent fashion. One oriental accessory that entered the western spotlight is the turban. The word turban comes from the old persian word dulband which means tulip and you must know that not all turbans are the same.

Common in a vast area of the world, from North Africa to Middle East and Central Asia, turbans have become popular among European and American celebrities since the XXth century, when Sophia Loren wore one. Since then, stars like Sarah Jessica Parker, Eva Mendes, Penélope Cruz, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Kylie Minogue, Nicole Scherzinger or Miley Cyrus have been spotted wearing turbans.

With time, the turban has evolved from a strictly utilitarian or a religious piece of clothing to a fashion statement, made out of cotton, silk or synthetics, wound around the head and held on by Its own tension, gravity or a chin strap.

These pieces of clothing can be showcased as very chic accessories by attaching a brooch to the fabric or simply by buying them in ethnic prints or very vivid or shiny colors such as: purple, red, magenta, orange, lime, gold, silver, bronze etc. Purple fits my needs as seen in the first photo. I love the way I look with it although I have a very round face so it looks like you can find the perfect match regardless of your face’s shape! You can also use a turban instead of a hat, in order to protect yourself from sun, sand, dust or cold.

Prices start from $10 and may reach thousands of dollars when embroidered with expensive gems. You can find one at the big fashion retailers or at small online shops from all around the world, like here !

Keep it simple,

Diana
