There’s a reason more than half a million people like Henar Vicente’s page on facebook. Henar, who blogs via the website ohmyvogue.com, has impeccable style and a wardrobe to die for. Chanel, Givenchy, Prada, Dior, Tiffany & Co, Louis Vuitton, Valentino, Hermés, Gucci, Balmain — you name the high end label and Henar has at least one item in her closet from the brand.

But I suspect Henar would still have the same number of admiring fans even if she didn’t possess such an enviable collection of high end designer shoes, bags, jewelry and other accessories. Henar simply has that “it” factor that separates very popular fashion bloggers from the rest of the fashion blogging crowd. It’s not “who” she wears. It’s what she wears and how she wears it that makes Henar stand out.
Above for example Henar’s ASOS Bandeau Maxi Floral Dress With Contrast Waist costs just over $100. Her shoes are from Zara and her jacket is from River Island. These are popular but typically affordable brands. So it’s definitely not all about the label and the high end price tag. But let’s be honest, it would be awesome to play dress up in Henar’s closet, choosing between the Prada and Chanel bags, the Louboutin and Valentino shoes–trying on that Balmain gold necklace.
In her July 27, 2014 blog post titled “Black and gold” Henar shows why she has so many fans around the globe. Her outfit is the perfect illustration of the point that it’s what she wears and how she wears it more so than who she wears that makes her so popular. Her top is a very affordable top from River Island (USD $32). The Asos skater skirt is also affordable (USD $74). With the addition of a faux leather gold accented peplum belt (USD $30) and a pair of black faux leather sandals with gold accent (USD $67) Henar turns this top and skirt combination into a stylishly chic ensemble, finishing the look with a gorgeous Balmain 24K gold plated brass chain necklace, a Hermés ‘Collier de Chien’ bracelet and Gucci sunglasses.
Style cannot be bought but can it be cultivated?
There was a time when I didn’t understand what it meant; but Henar is a great example of what is meant when it’s said that you can buy fashion but you can’t buy style. Having a closet filled with the best of everything doesn’t mean you will have a knack for putting just the right things together to produce great outfits that will win you wide admiration. Henar definitely has style. Some say you have to be born with style; but I think those of us who weren’t born with it can learn a thing or two from stylish girls like Henar. And one thing I definitely notice is that Henar’s bags, shoes, jewelry and accessories elevate her looks to new heights.

You don’t need a closet filled with high end designer items. A few key pieces will go a long long way. Focus on the bags and the accessories, the jewelry and the shoes and your outerwear. Invest in things that you can wear many times with many different combinations of things.
