Spotlight on: “Bastoni di fashion”

Kasia is a 50 year old blogger from Italy. She blogs via the website Bastoni di Fashion where she gives readers a glimpse into her life through pictures. I first came across Kasia while browsing through photos on lookbook. I have since spent some time looking through the pictures on her website and I have been left with the impression of a woman who understands that fashion is an integral part of life and that a person’s style should be a reflection not of their age but of who they are and how they feel.

Kasia’s style reflects a youthful spirit and the kind of confidence that every woman should possess–a quiet confidence that comes from knowing who you are and from loving yourself from the inside out. I have come away from viewing Bastoni di Fashion inspired to work at developing that kind of confidence in the hope that I will radiate as much or even half as much youthfulness and beauty when I’m 50.

If you’ve spent any time looking through the style photos on lookbook.nu you might have noticed that after a certain age the majority of ladies don’t say how old they are. The fashion blogging world is dominated by girls in their late teens and early twenties. Any age over twenty-five and you start to feel like you’re in the wrong place.

So when I come across the lookbook pages of ladies who are over thirty and don’t try to hide the fact by omitting their age from their profile I always want to applaud them. I’m sure they aren’t thinking they’re doing something brave by publishing their age. Why should they think this way? But women are still being made to feel that after a certain age they are not beautiful and therefore should not stand on the same stage as younger women.

The usual message being spread is that life is over at 50–a woman at that age should cover up herself and keep out of sight because no one wants to see her. With that kind of attitude still thriving in society it should be encouraging to all women, including younger women, when women like Kasia get up on the stage anyway.

Women need to know that they are valuable at every age. We need to see more of women like Kasia because we are all going to be 50 one day. We need to know that we can still be healthy and beautiful, fashionable and youthful at 50, 60, 70 and beyond. It’s all about your mentality and the choices you make, the ideas you embrace.
