I’ve been wanting to get some big costume rings to use when I do my pretend modeling photo shoots. But as you might guess I can’t afford the rings I like. So I decided to try my hands at making some costume rings.
Making your own big costume rings
My quest to make my own big costume rings began with a Google search for tutorials on making your own rings in general. I came across some video tutorials showing how to make rings out of mosaic glass gems. The process looked easy enough so I decided to pick up some mosaic glass beads and give it a go.
Supplies
- Mosaic glass gems
- Acrylic paint
- Glitter glue
- Paint brush
- Ring mounts
- Industrial strength adhesive
Basically all you do is paint whatever design you like on the flat part of the mosaic glass gem and allow it to dry. Depending on what you use to paint on your design you might have to leave it overnight to dry. Then once it’s dry glue on a ring mount. If you require more detailed instructions there are plenty of tutorial videos on youtube for making DIY glass rings.
Or use plastic gems to make your big costume rings…
As an alternative to using mosaic glass beads that you have to paint, you can use plastic gems. I have some gems left over from my DIY box clutch project. I have to admit after making rings with the plastic gems, my gems are too cheap to make for wearable rings. You can see where the glue was applied to the ring mount and the ring mount affixed to the gem. So you might want to use a higher quality of gems than I used. But sticking on a pre-cut gem onto a ring base with some industrial strength adhesive is as easy as you’re going to get for making your own rings.
Or turn an old pendant into a ring…
The last of my DIY big costume rings was made using a pendant. I’ve always thought this pendant would make a nice ring. I’ve finally gone ahead and turned it into one.
So there you have it. My DIY big costume rings…
