I missed the Alexander Wang live stream yesterday. Was busy watching Roger Federer get eliminated from the 2014 US Open tennis tournament. I was rooting for Roger so I wasn’t happy to see him get knocked out but I could tell from the start of the match that he wasn’t getting out of that one the way he got out of the hole in his previous match with Gael Monfils. Cilic was just too powerful a force for Roger to reckon with yesterday. Today I’ll be watching the women’s final between Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki. Serena will either win her 18th grand slam title or Caroline will win her 1st. In the meantime I am about to get watching the rebroadcast of the Alexander Wang show that I missed yesterday. So here we go.
I came across a comment where someone was talking about the music that played while the models were walking down the runway so I decided to make a point to listen to the music. I usually have it on mute so I haven’t heard the music from any of the other shows. I’d agree that the music had a nice beat to it. Made you want to dance a little bit. But it kind of emphasized to me how much all of this is about the bottom line. The bottom line is the product and the money that will be generated. I get that these shows run the way they run and everybody is okay with the standard. Nobody’s complaining because everybody’s getting what they want out of it, including the models; but it would be interesting to be able to see the models presented more as individuals with personalities than robots showing clothes. I mean, I do get it–it’s about the clothes, not about the models, and it’s more effective to have them come out looking like a steady stream of robots you can barely tell apart, as it keeps the audience’s focus on the clothes. You don’t want the audience distracted by the model’s personality. You want the audience’s attention focused entirely on the clothes.
As my personal style is more loose and free, airy and flowy, I didn’t really see anything that made me go “I want that”. Maybe a couple of bags; but not anything in the clothing department. The collection was nice, but just a little too fitted overall for me. I’m more keen to purchase Alexander Wang bags and shoes than clothes.
