While browsing the Internet a short while ago we came across some photos of celebrities from this year’s Coachella Valley Arts and Music Festival. It got us wondering about Coachella fashion culture. Is there a standard dress style?
These looks from Kendall Jenner seem to be emblematic of Coachella fashion culture. In the first look she wore a vest over a bikini top with knee length ripped jeans shorts and snake print ankle boots. In the 2nd she wore a cute cropped top with what look like black shorts under a sheer skirt with high splits all around.
Coachella fashion culture is…
All about skin?
Although Kendall’s looks seem to reflect the standard style of dress at Coachella, it’s probably not accurate to suggest that Coachella fashion culture is all about skin. There are plenty enough sightings of fully covered up ladies to contradict that idea. What it appears to be about is keeping nice and cool and comfortable while looking chic.
Apparently it can get pretty hot in the valley
So short shorts and tank tops in the style of what Bella Hadid is wearing above are quite common.
And hippie looks…
The Coachella fashion culture often seems to have a bit of a Woodstock hippie connection. Alessandra Ambrosio wears denim shorts with a fringed bikini top and knee high boots. She captioned this picture “Desert vibes” on her Instagram.
Statement necklaces, bangles and bracelets also appear to be a common theme.
As Paris Hilton and Nicky Hilton demonstrate, you can do skirts and dresses and still maintain the Coachella fashion standard of showing some skin. With some exceptions it does seem as if the 30 and older Coachella crowd covers up a little bit more than the younger crowd. But covering up completely at Coachella seems to be a dress code violation. If you’re too chaste to show a little skin Coachella is probably not the festival for you.
